Bodegas Valdemar receives the award for Socially Responsible International Company.

Award for Socially Responsible International Company

It distinguishes companies that stand out for aligning Corporate Social Responsibility principles to their international strategy.

Bodegas Valdemar has been awarded the prize for the best Socially Responsible Company at the 37th edition of the Awards for the Internationalisation of Alavesa companies.

These awards, organised by the Alava Chamber of Commerce as a tribute and recognition to those companies that accredit their efforts, merits and results in their foreign activity, were presented during a gala held at the Gran Hotel Lakua in Vitoria on 23 March.

With this award, the Chamber of Commerce has rewarded the work that Valdemar has been carrying out in recent years in terms of sustainability and inclusivity both within and outside our borders.

Sustainability 360º is the project promoted by the Valdemar Family to ensure the legacy they want to leave to the next generations and to demonstrate their faithful commitment to international sustainability both in Rioja Alavesa and in the United States, thanks to Valdemar Estates, the first non-American winery in the state of Washington. This initiative updates the concept of the winery based on social and environmental commitment, quality and internationalisation.

Valdemar is firmly convinced that for its sustainability project to be complete, it must be linked to all areas of the company:

In viticulture, representing five generations of love and respect for the terroir, enriching the vineyards and creating sustainable wine agrosystems.

In the winery, by reducing emissions, waste and improving energy efficiency.

In wine tourism, increasing awareness and dissemination of sustainability and strengthening its commitment to inclusive wine tourism. Valdemar Family is, since 2018, the only winery in the world to have its wine tourism experience fully accessible and inclusive, both in Rioja and in the USA.

As Ana Martínez Bujanda, 5th generation of the family explains, “it is a great honour to receive this award. Valdemar is a brand forged from its origins in the concern to conquer new horizons in the world of wine, and this recognition will encourage us to continue with our firm commitment to sustainability, both within and beyond our borders. We want to leave the best legacy for the next generations”.

The award was presented by Jesús María García de Cos, Deputy Minister of Trade and Tourism of the Basque Government and collected by Lara Nestares, the group’s Financial Director, who expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Valdemar family and stressed that “this award highlights two of the pillars on which we base our business, such as internationalisation on the one hand and sustainability and social responsibility on the other”.
